Hawk Tuah girl Haliey Welch lining up new catchphrases

Viral sensation Welch saw her life change in all sorts of ways, and with followers aplenty, takes on an influencing role.

Back in June, a contender for the 2024 viral awards burst onto our multitude of screens. But while the brief video clip, and related follow-on comments and memes, gave many some enjoyment, the ‘girl’ at the heart of it saw her life take a dramatic turn.

Haliey Welch’s unforeseen moment in downtown Tennessee with content creators Tim & Dee TV gave us the now famous line, “You gotta give ‘em that ‘hawk tuah’ and spit on that thing, you get me?” in response to their question, “What’s one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time?”

So, ‘does she have any other catchphrases up her sleeve?’ I hear you ask. Well, it appears she may have.

Hawk Tuah: close but no...

Haliey’s official X (formerly Twitter) account @HalieyWelchX is a popular destination for her over quarter of a million followers. There she shares rather a lot of what is going on with her life, at least the parts she wants us to see, and this ranges from her breakfast choices, to her charity work, to what she is getting up to when out and about.

In recent days she met up with Sketch (in what looked like a rather awkward exchange) and posted this following her “on that note” exit with the line: ‘Close but no cigar Sketch.’

OK, so not a new phrase, true – that dates back to the 1920s carnival prizes – but when she followed that up a couple of days later with ‘Close but no gravy’ in an exchange with country singer Yung Gravy, some thought that maybe she was lighting up a slogan reboot.

‘Close but no Trump‘ we may hear if she gets political. What about ‘Close but no whiskey‘ after she’s had more than enough. Or could we even have a ‘Close but no hawk tuah’ when she just ain’t in the mood?

Considering Hawk Tuah’s soul

The other new catchphrase that Haliey may get rumbling is one she made during a recent interview. “What’s good for the hole, is not always good for the soul.” Sounds like she’s talking about junk food, right?

Money, money, money. That’s what millions of online posters are aiming for as they fill their timelines with material. And, while Haliey may not have had the ‘kerching’ sound in her mind when she answered that on-the-spot question, she has quickly adapted to social media, leaving her job at a spring factory to become an internet sensation.

She rapidly gained a million Instagram followers, and with her newfound fame, her earnings soared, reported earning $30,000 for an early appearance at Daer Dayclub in Florida.

One of Welch’s most lucrative ventures has been merchandising, guided by her agent Jonnie Foster from The Penthouse management. After trademarking the phrase “hawk tuah,” they took legal action against others attempting to use it. They then negotiated licensing deals with fake accounts to sell official merchandise, ensuring Welch receives a portion of every sale, which brought in nearly $300,000 in the first month alone. Demand for “hawk tuah” merch shows no signs of slowing down as she continues to spit out more content.
