How does Katy Perry feel about the American Idol backlash?
The 38-year-old singer is currently judging the 21st season of the hit music competition.
Katy Perry has had a controversial American Idol season, and now she’s breaking her silence on the matter.
Perry is currently a mentor alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan for season 21 of American Idol, and this season has been full of emotions.
Despite receiving a large amount of hate online for things she’s said, Perry is choosing to brush off the criticism she has been given.
“Katy isn’t fazed by the backlash,” a source told PageSix. “This has been a roller-coaster season with a lot of great talent, so she is just doing her job.”
The insider explained that Perry “has a unique sense of humor that may not always translate well on camera, but she never has any ill intent” while judging the singing competition.
“She’s a mentor and a friend to the contestants,” the source said.
What has American Idol fans mad at Perry?
The ‘Dark Horse’ singer has been under fire a few times in the past few months for different comments she has made on air during the show.
First, Perry, who is a mom of one, was accused of “mom-shaming” contestant Sara Beth Liebe, when she made a comment claiming the 25-year-old mother of three had been “laying on the table too much.”
Liebe ultimately ended up leaving American Idol early after Perry’s “hurtful” comment to “get home to her babies” and clarified on Instagram that there are no hard feelings towards Perry.
Perry also received backlash when she was seen critiquing Nutsa Buzaladze’s glittery costume and begging viewers to vote after Wé Ani survived eliminations but Elijah McCormick was sent home.
Why are Perry and Lionel Richie getting replaced?
Two of the American Idol coaches are being replaced… temporarily.
Music icons Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran will be taking over Perry and Richie’s roles alongside Luke Bryan this Sunday.
This is due to the fact that both judges will be taking the time off to perform at King Charles III’s coronation concert in London.
