The Crystal Microphone has a new name engraved. Nemo and their song ‘The Code’ triumphed tonight in Malmö at the most controversial edition of Eurovision remembered by followers.

Protests erupted around the event, following the way the host, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) addressed the participation of Israel. This included the controversial decision to ban all Palestinian symbols during tonight´s performances. Though Israel picked up over 300 points with the popular vote, the country´s representative Eden Golan came in fifth place.

Switzerland had won twice before tonight. The first win came during the inaugural show back in 1956 when the country hosted. The winner was Lys Assia with her song Refrain. The Swiss second victory came in 1988 when Céline Dion sang ’Ne partez pas sans moi’. However, Switzerland has made the top 10 of the final 27 times.

Switzerland to host next year

The next edition, which will be held in Switzerland as Nemo has emerged as champion in the final held at the Malmö Arena, will be held, as usual, in May 2025. Previously, the preselections for each country will take place, the dates of which will be confirmed as the months go by.
