The inaugural Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards takes place on Saturday, May 6.

Update:
The inaugural Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards takes place on Saturday, May 6.

Billboard is gearing up to host the first-ever Billboard Mujeres Latinas en la Música or Billboard Latin Women in Music awards, an expansion of the Billboard Women in Music award show.

The new award show will exclusively honor Latinas from a variety of music genres found throughout Latin America, as well as executives and creatives outside of music.

“Our Latin Women In Music gala is a bold and inspiring event. Our honorees come from vastly diverse places, generations, styles, genres and philosophies, but all have excellence, commitment and unique and uncompromising artistry and points of view,” said Leila Cobo, the chief content officer for Billboard Latin/Español.

“In this landmark year for Latin music, we are so proud to launch our newest tentpole, where we will celebrate outstanding, powerful, leading women yearly.”

The event will take place on Saturday, May 6, and will be airing on Sunday, May 7 on Telemundo.

Who is hosting the Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards?

The Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards will be co-hosted by reggaetonera Ivy Queen, who recently received the Icon Award at the 2023 Billboard Women in Music, and was presented the award by one of the biggest names in Latin music right now, Bad Bunny.

Ivy Queen will be joined by Jacqueline Bracamontes, a Mexican television personality who was crowned Miss Mexico in 2000. She has also acted in a number of telenovelas, including ‘Rubí’ in 2004, and currently works as a correspondent for Telemundo.

Confirmed presenters are Giselle Blondet, Chiky Bombom, Jessica Carrillo, Greeicy, Guaynaa, Ha*Ash, Lele Pons, Andrea Meza, Elena Rose, and Nicole Zignago.

Who will be honored at the award show?

Shakira will be honored as the inaugural ‘Latin Woman of the Year’, and has been credited as someone who has “empowered [Latinas] to write and perform deeply personal music” since beginning her career in 1990.

“Shakira has been pivotal in shaping the vibrant and diverse landscape of Latin music and music in general throughout her career,” said Ronald Day, president of entertainment and content strategy for Telemundo.

“Her passion, talent and creativity have broken barriers and empowered generations to embrace our identity through music, and we are incredibly proud to recognize her as Woman of the Year in the industry.”

Meanwhile, Mexican singer Ana Gabriel will be receiving the Living Legend Award in recognition of her 40-year musical career.

Emilia will be presented with the Rising Star Award, with Maria Becerra receiving the Visionary Award. Evaluna will be honored with the Tradition and Future Award, and Goyo with the Agent of Change Award.
