Hugh Jackman ready to take on Ryan Reynolds on the pitch
The ‘Wolverine’ actor threatened to ‘stick it to Ryan Reynolds’ by joining a rival soccer team.
Hugh Jackman is ready to buy a soccer club for the sole purpose of taking on ‘Deadpool’ actor Ryan Reynolds and his soccer club, Wrexham AFC.
Reynolds and Jackman are longtime adversaries on the silver screen, with ‘Deadpool 3′ launching in theaters in 2024. Jackman has described their history as similar to a “sibling rivalry” and referred to himself as the older, smarter, and wiser brother.
Jackman vs. Reynolds
Jackman told Laura Kuenssberg that he would be willing to buy a rival club, and joked that he wants to join and to lead them to victory — and in the process defeat his old pal Ryan Reynolds.
The actor said that it appears easy to buy a club, and that it would be worth it just to stick it to Ryan Reynolds.
“I was like, ‘You know what? This whole thing of outsiders coming in buying football teams, it feels a little easy,” Jackman said. “So I’ve decided to go one step further: I’m actually going to try out for the team.”
“I think if I really want to stick it to Ryan Reynolds, then if Wrexham get to play Norwich, because obviously there’s a different level here, I think it’d be best if I was heading in the winner.”
A history of rivalry
As fans start to see that maybe Jackman isn’t joking about the prospect of dabbling in soccer, he revealed that he had received several offers from other clubs after Reynolds bought his team in 2020.
“I will admit to you that when Ryan bought that team, I did get more than one offer from rivals to that team for £1 to come in as a co-owner,” he bragged. “And it did seriously tempt me.”
Back in 2021, Jackman threatened to purchase Norwich City FC so he can back Reynolds into a high-stakes, winner-takes-all battle.
“Let’s get that game together. That’d be fun,” Jackman laughed while speaking with LADBible. “And then maybe Ryan and I could just make it a little side wager. Like, everything; let’s just put everything that we own and love — families, kids, everything — on the line.”
