Is Becky G returning to TV acting?
The singer could be making a return to TV as the star of a new telenovela series.
Becky G may be a force to be reckoned with in the world of music, but she actually got her start in the entertainment industry through acting.
Now, the artist is reportedly in talks to take on the lead role in an upcoming telenovela called ‘Queen of Flow’, an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela ‘La Reina Del Flow’, set to be developed by Peacock.
What is ‘Queen of Flow’ about?
‘Queen of Flow’ is a revenge/musical drama that follows Yeimi, the character Becky G may portray, a rising musical star who falls in love with the heir of a rich and powerful family. As Yeimi and the family become close, dark secrets about Yeimi and her lover’s family are discovered and, if revealed, would ruin both their lives.
Deadline revealed the exclusive details on the upcoming series, which was described as a “Count of Monte Cristo-esque tale set against the backdrop of Latin music.”
The series will be produced by both Westbrook Studios and Universal Television (UTV). Jorge Reyes is listed as a scriptwriter for the project. Terence Carter, Westbrook Studios Co-President, and David Boorstein, Head of Television, will lead as executive producers.
They are joined by Tucker Tooley producers Tucker Tooley and Jay Weisleder, Eli Shibley for Major Content, Paulette Bensussen and Darah Wagner Boaz for Erik Barmack’s Wild Sheep Content, and Lisette Osorio for Caracol Television.
Reyes previously worked as a writer/producer for the English-language adaptation of the Mexican telenovela ‘La Reina del Sur’ called ‘Queen of the South’ which aired on USA Network. He also worked as the creator/co-executive producer of ‘Kevin Hill’, a legal dramedy starring Taye Diggs and Christina Hendricks.
Reyes got his start writing for TV on the police drama ‘New York Undercover’ created by Dick Wolf. Aside from his ‘Queen of Flow’ work, he is currently working on a project based on the life of hip-hop star Fat Joe called ‘The Book of Jose’.
Becky G’s early acting experience
Before Becky G made a name for herself in the world of music, she explored acting. She had a few minor roles as a child, including a short film called ‘El Tux’, and a TV movie called ‘La estación de la Calle Olvera’, both in 2008.
In 2017, she starred in ‘Power Rangers’ as Trini Kwan the Yellow Power Ranger, also starring Dacre Montgomery and Naomi Scott.
Last year, she appeared in ‘Good Morning’, the directorial debut by Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun. The movie, described as a “stoner comedy”, also stars Megan Fox.
