The ‘Thor’ actor has recently discovered that he could be vulnerable in later life to the degenerative disease.
The ‘Thor’ star Chris Hemsworth recently shocked longtime fans of the movie franchise by revealing why he is considering quitting acting forever. The actor with over a decade of successful film experience recently discovered that he is vulnerable to neurodegenerative disease in later life.
Hemsworth discovered he is eight to 10 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s while he was filming his National Geographic and Disney+ docuseries ‘Limitless.’ According to sources close to the actor, he is planning on closely monitoring his workload in Hollywood and putting his health as his main priority,
Is Chris Hemsworth retiring?
An insider close to the actor reassured Page Six, that Hemsworth will not be retiring anytime soon, “he doesn’t plan to take on many roles because of (learning about his high risk of) Alzheimer’s”
This slowdown in roles will come after he finishes his four upcoming projects, which include his upcoming role in the ‘Avengers’ sequel and a part in the untitled biopic of the wrestling icon ‘Hulk Hogan.’
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth himself reassures fans that he is not “retiring by any means,” but instead he is considering a more “curated approach to things.”
“Most of us, we like to avoid speaking about death. Then to all of a sudden be told some big indicators are actually pointing to this as the route which is going to happen, the reality of it sinks in. Your own mortality,” he added.
The actor, now 39 years old, said that after he is finished shooting for ‘Limitless’ he plans to go on an extended break to spend more time with his three daughters and wife Elsa Pataky.
Hemsworth’s upcoming roles
According to IMDb, Hemsworth has four confirmed upcoming roles. The earliest release is ‘Extraction 2′ which is slated for release on June 16, 2023. The movie serves as a sequel to the 2020 action thriller by the same title.
Later in 2024, Hemsworth will star in the ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ prequel ‘Furiosa’ alongside actress Anya Taylor-Joy. In 2026, he will reprise his role as Thor for the next ‘Avengers’ sequel.
His final upcoming role will be as Terry Bollea (Hulk Hogan’s birth name) in the upcoming untitled Hulk Hogan Biopic, which has yet to have an estimated release date.
