After it was initially reported that Lady Gaga would not be performing at the 2023 Oscars, it looks as though the singer is set to make a surprise appearance at Sunday’s ceremony.

Is Lady Gaga performing at the 2023 Oscars?

The news comes after some last minute talks, after it was first reported that Gaga would be skipping the awards due to her filming schedule for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux.’

The film will feature Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as Joker/Arthur Fleck and Gaga joins the cast as Harley Quinn.

“We have great relationships with Lady Gaga and her camp [but] she’s in the middle of shooting a movie right now, and here we are honoring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie,” Oscars producer Glenn Weiss said earlier this week.

“After a bunch of back and forth, it didn’t feel like she can get a performance to the caliber that we’re used to with her, that she’s used to and all that stuff.”

However, Variety are now reporting that Gaga will be in attendance for the Oscars on Sunday night, and that she will be performing her Oscar-nominated song ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

With Lady Gaga now set to perform at the Oscars on Sunday night, it means that all of the Best Original song nominees will perform at the ceremony.

This includes Rihanna (’Lift Me Up’), Sofia Carson and Diane Warren (’Applause’), Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne and Son Lux (’This Is a Life’) and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava (’Naatu Naatu’).

Gaga and the Academy Awards

‘Hold My Hand’ marks the singer’s fourth Oscar nomination. After receiving her nomination, Gaga expressed her gratitude via her Instagram account.

“Thank you so much to the Academy for nominating my song ‘Hold My Hand’ for an Oscar this year!” she wrote. “Writing this song for the film ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was a deep and powerful experience that I will never forget.

“So grateful for the magic of music and cinema,” she exclaimed.
