Is Roseanne returning to ‘The Conners’? What is known about the character’s possible return
She was the star of the show, then got herself in some very hot water with some ill-judged comments on social media, but could she be revived?
Since the revival of ‘Roseanne’ and its subsequent spin-off, ‘The Conners,’ fans have been speculating about the potential return of Roseanne Barr’s iconic character to the small screen. While the revival saw the return of many classic characters, including Crystal Anderson portrayed by Natalie West, the question remains: will Roseanne herself make a comeback?
Roseanne unlikely to return from the dead
West’s reprisal of the role of Crystal Anderson in a recent episode of ‘The Conners’ sparked hopes among fans that Barr’s character could follow suit. Crystal, a long-time friend of the Conner family, made a poignant return, albeit grappling with health issues, which stirred speculation about a possible return of other original characters.
However, the likelihood of Roseanne’s return seems slim in light of past events. The revival of ‘Roseanne’ was abruptly canceled in 2018 following controversial remarks made by Barr on social media. Despite critical acclaim and a promising future for the series, Barr’s offensive tweet led to her dismissal from the show by Disney, the parent company of ABC.
Since then, Barr has remained relatively out of the public eye, with her only recent return to the entertainment world being a 2023 comedy special. While she expressed regret for her actions, the family-friendly image of Disney, coupled with the character’s in-universe demise, diminishes the prospects of her return to ‘The Conners.’
The potential demise of Anderson’s character in ‘The Conners’ further solidifies the show’s departure from Barr’s character, indicating a shift towards new storylines and character developments. With Crystal’s storyline potentially providing an emotionally impactful arc for the series, it seems unlikely that Roseanne Barr’s character will resurface in the near future. But when it comes to television and the battle for viewers, we never can tell.
