Jack Black opposes Elon Musk’s Twitter changes

In October 2022, Elon Musk became the owner and CEO of Twitter. Shortly after, he began implementing huge changes to the social media platform.

From reinstating accounts of controversial figures to tweaking Twitter’s policies, each decision has been met with heavy criticism.

While promoting his latest film ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, Jack Black shared his thoughts on Twitter Blue – a policy that will require a monthly fee for users to retain their verification status.

Black’s stance

“I don’t know if I’m going to pay it,” Black said. “I’m a little embarrassed by the blue check mark to be honest with you. Maybe it’s cooler not to have checks.

“It’s definitely not cool to pay for it. I’m gonna see what happens if I don’t pay for it. I’m gonna call his bluff, see if he really takes my check away.

“Then I’m going to hold a big press conference to bring attention to this weird injustice,” he joked.

What is Twitter Blue?

According to Musk, Twitter Blue is a monthly subscription where users will pay $8 to obtain and/or retain a blue verification check mark.

The verification has been used to separate a person from potential imposters imitating them on social media. Some worry that a lack of a blue check mark will increase the number of imposters.

Chris Pratt and Seth Rogen weigh in

When asked if he would pay for the monthly subscription, Chris Pratt wasn’t sure.

“I don’t know,” he said. “I care deeply about all of [my followers]. I’ll do whatever I have to do to stay a part of their lives because I respect their attention and I love to use it as an opportunity to talk to them when I’m doing movies and stuff.”

On the other hand, Seth Rogen couldn’t be less interested in the matter.

“I don’t use it,” Rogen said simply.
