Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck divorce update: stars haven’t seen each other in weeks

Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who appear to be heading for divorce after two years of marriage, have reportedly not seen each other in a number of weeks.

“They’re moving on separately,” a source told People. “Jennifer is trying to find a new home to start fresh.”

After returning from a summer vacation in Italy, Lopez has been spending time in New York City and the Hamptons, where she celebrated her 55th birthday in late July. Meanwhile, Affleck has chiefly been in Los Angeles, where he has already purchased a new home. The Beverly Hills mansion he shared with Lopez has been put up for sale, with a reported asking price of $68 million.

“Considering everything that’s going on, Jennifer is having a good summer,” People’s source says. “She’s been off and able to focus on what’s next. She’s enjoyed spending time with her kids, family and friends.” The insider added: “She always has a good attitude even when things are not perfect.”

Why are Lopez and Affleck getting divorced?

Rumours of separation surfaced in May, after Lopez and Affleck logged more than 40 days without being seen together in public. Four months on, the couple’s respective business managers are working out the financial details of their divorce, TMZ has reported.

According to several reports, the actors will issue a joint statement at a time they deem appropriate to announce the split. As for the reasons, both have remained tight-lipped about the matter.

A source previously told People that their issues aren’t related to Lopez’s superstar level of fame. “The idea that Ben thinks Jennifer is too famous and that he didn’t know what he was getting into with the attention on their marriage isn’t true,” the insider said. “There are deeper issues.”

If Lopez and Affleck’s divorce is confirmed, it will be the second time they have called it quits as a couple. The pair also had a period as an item two decades ago, but called off their engagement just days before their wedding in late 2003, then confirmed their separation in early 2004.

On that occasion, their break-up was due to the media glare on their relationship. “Ben and I, we broke up three days before our wedding,” Lopez told her recent Amazon Prime documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told. “We had a big wedding planned, like 14 ushers and bridesmaids, and three days before, we just crumbled under the pressure.”

Affleck added: “When Jen and I broke up before, the catalyst for that was the amount of scrutiny around our private life.”
