Jennifer Lopez reveals post-traumatic stress disorder after Ben Affleck break-up
J.Lo will release ‘This is Me..Now’, her first studio album in almost 10 years, in February, with an accompanying documentary film.
On 16 February 2024, Jennifer Lopez will release her ninth studio album, entitled This is Me...Now, which will be accompanied by an Amazon Prime-exclusive documentary film telling the story of her life with husband Ben Affleck.
Lopez and Affleck’s on-off romance
In an interview with Variety, the singer and actress revealed those closest to her were not completely convinced documenting her relationship was wise, but Lopez has her reasons for giving the public a glimpse into her private life: “As artists, we have to follow our heart and this is me following my heart and doing something that maybe everybody didn’t think was the best idea, but I had to do it.”
Lopez and Affleck first started dating in the early 2000s and were engaged to be married in 2002. Their wedding was originally planned for September 2003 but was postponed due to “excessive media attention,” with the couple eventually splitting in January 2004.
They got back together again in April 2021 and eventually did marry in Las Vegas in July 2022.
“PTSD” after marriage breakdown
The 54-year-old confesses that she and Affleck “both have PTSD” from the circumstances surrounding their breakup 20 years ago but says they have learned from the experience. “We’re older now. We’re wiser. We also know what’s important, what’s really important in life, and it’s not so much what other people think. It’s about being true to who you are.”
Lopez remained coy when asked whether the film accompanying This is Me...Now was scripted or a true reflection of her life with Affleck, explaining: “You have to see it and you’ll have to experience it to understand it. That’s why I call it a ‘musical experience.’ Because there’s music, you can see it, you can hear it and then you’ll get to live it.”
Lopez to release new single in January
The lead single from the new album, titled “Can’t Get Enough” is to be released on 10 January 2024. J-Lo’s previous studio album, A.K.A., came almost 10 years ago in June 2014.
