John Travolta paid tribute to late ‘Grease’ co-star Olivia Newton-John by singing the movie’s iconic ‘Summer Nights’ in a Super Bowl ad for T-Mobile.

The actress passed away in August of 2022 after a three-decade-long battle with breast cancer, and Travolta is joined by Scrubs stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison in honoring her.

Travolta is seen wearing a white T-shirt and black jacket, which brings back memories of Danny Zuko, while the trio go around offering T-Mobile’s service using tweaked lyrics to the song.

They do so while showing off some ‘Grease’ style dance moves.

Travolta’s kind words for Newton-John

“My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again,” Travolta wrote on Instagram following Newton-John’s passing.

“Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”

‘Grease’ still resonates with fans today. Harry Styles dressed as Travolta’s character and sang a cover of ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ during a performance on Halloween. The song was also covered by Pink in tribute to Newton-John during the American Music Awards last year.

‘Grease’ is getting a prequel series

Paramount+ is also set to release a prequel series, ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’.

Created by Annabel Oakes, audiences will be whisked back to Rydell High in 1954, four years before ‘Grease’. There, they will see the girl gang known as the Pink Ladies and how they were first formed.

“Fans of the original should be happy,” Oakes told Entertainment Weekly. “We call ‘Grease’ the mothership and we always are talking about how we have to pay homage and respect the mothership.”

The show stars Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, Tricia Fukuhara, Shanel Bailey, Madison Thompson, Johnathan Nieves, Jason Schmidt, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper and Jackie Hoffman.

Initially earmarked for an early 2023 release, it was later announced at a Television Critics Association panel that the show will premiere on April 6, 2023.
