Jonathan Majors arraigned on assault and harassment charges

According to the Manhattan DA’s office, Jonathan Majors was arraigned on several assault and harassment charges on Sunday.

In the complaint, the unnamed female accuser claims the defendant did “strike her about the face with an open hand, causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear.”

She also claims the defendant “put his hand on her neck, causing bruising and substantial pain.”

Majors was arrested on Saturday

The news comes after Majors was arrested on Saturday in Manhattan after an alleged “domestic dispute”. He was taken into custody following a 911 call made from an apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood as per a statement from the New York Police Department.

The DA’s office says Majors was released on his own recognizance by a judge and granted a limited order of protection.

His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, has disputed the claims and stated that there is evidence to suggest that Majors was the victim in the situation.

“Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows,” Chaudhry said. “We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently.

“All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever. Unfortunately, this incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday.

“The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested. We expect these charges to be dropped soon.”

Majors’ U.S. Army commercial was pulled

Following the arrest, the U.S. Army pulled its new advertisement campaign which features Majors.

The actor was the on-screen narrator for the new ‘Be All You Can Be’ campaign. They were part of a multi-million dollar campaign that also included immersive in-person events that focused on targeting the audience of the 2023 NCAA men’s college basketball tournament.

“The U.S. Army is aware of the arrest of Jonathan Majors and we are deeply concerned by the allegations surrounding his arrest,” said Laura DeFrancisco, spokesperson for the Army Enterprise Marketing Office.

“While Mr. Majors is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete.”
