Lana Del Rey surprises fans by releasing single from upcoming album

On Tuesday, Lana Del Rey surprised fans by releasing the opening track ‘The Grants’ off of her upcoming album ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.’ ‘The Grants’ is the third single after the title track and ‘A&W,’ which were previously released. The album is set to be released on March 24.

The song is named after the singer’s family and is described as the singer getting sentimental about family by fans. According to Consequence.net, the singer appears to pay tribute to her late Uncle David Grant on the track.

Family ties

“I’m gonna take mine of you with me,” Del Rey sings. “Like ‘Rocky Mountain High’/ The way John Denver sings.”

The outlet speculates that the lyrics are about the singer’s uncle who died in 2016 while climbing the Rocky Mountains.

Also in her family, the singer’s father Rob Grant will be releasing his debut album on June 9, 2023. Tracks ‘Lost at Sea’ and ‘Hollywood Bowl’ are songs from Grant’s upcoming album ‘Lost at Sea’ which features Lana Del Rey.

The family duo has worked together before with Grant being credited for piano and production roles on Del Rel’s 2021 song ‘Sweet Carolina.’

‘The Grants’ was co-written with Mike Hermosa and features backing vocals from Pattie Howard, Melodye Perry, and Shikena Jones. Other collaborations from the upcoming album include Father John Misty, Jon Batiste, Tommy Genesis, along with Producer Jack Antonoff.

Jack Antonoff and Lana Del Rey have collaborated on music together before, Antonoff also produced the singer’s 2019 and 2021 albums.

Promotion for the upcoming album

Lana Del Rey promoted the album with various billboards throughout the US, one was placed in the hometown of her ex-boyfriend in Tulsa, Oklahoma which gained the attention of fans online.

Lana Del Rey confirmed the intention behind the billboard with an Instagram post of herself at the billboard with the caption. “There’s only one and it’s in Tulsa.” with a skull and bones emoji.

Lana Del Rey dated a Tulsa Police Officer named Sean Larkin. The two were first spotted together in September 2019 and ultimately broke up in March 2020. The couple attended numerous red carpets together throughout their relationship, including the 2020 Pre-Gammy Gala and the 2020 Grammys.
