When Taylor Swift’s album ‘Midnights’ was released in 2022, fans of both Swift and Lana Del Rey were excited to hear their collab song ‘Snow on the Beach’, but the ‘Radio’ singer can barely be heard on the song.

Many fans thought that Del Rey was snubbed by Swift, or that her vocals were cut out. But in a recent Billboard interview, the artist revealed that her small role in the song was because she had no idea she was the only feature on the song.

A smaller-than-intended role

“I had no idea I was the only feature [on that song]. Had I known, I would have sung the entire second verse like she wanted,” Del Rey explained.

“My job as a feature on a big artist’s album is to make sure I help add to the production of the song, so I was more focused on the production.

“She was very adamant that she wanted me to be on the album, and I really liked that song,” she added.

Del Rey was excited to bridge the world between her and Swift, as they both work with Jack Antonoff, who works as a songwriter and producer for both artists.

In the final cut, Del Rey sang less than 20 audible words, but her vocals were heard backing Swift throughout the track.

The song, which follows the theme of falling in love and the magical feelings that come from that, has a dreamy feel familiar to Del Rey fans.

A song about love

“The song is about falling in love with someone at the same time as they’re falling in love with you, sort of in this sort of cataclysmic, fated moment where you realize someone feels exactly the same way that you feel,” Swift said of the song.

Kind of like it would be if you were to see snow falling on a beach.

In an Instagram post, Swift gushed over her love of Del Rey, saying “The fact that I get to exist at the same time as her is an honor and a privilege and the fact that she would be so generous as to collaborate with us on this song is something I’m going to be grateful for life.”
