LeBron James’ wife Savannah James’ important initiative: “Even if the storm passes, we’re still here for our community.”
The Lakers’ star’s wife offers a safe space for other women in her community to grow and “reach their fullest potential”.
Bringing people - and women in particular together is at the core of the initiative set up by LeBron James’ wife Savannah and her two friends April McDaniel and Porsha Ellis.
The two women have created a network or safe space for other women in the Los Angeles community where they can be freed of their inhibitions and “reach their fullest potential”.
Let It Break: “a movement in the making"
Savannah, April and Porsha launched Let It Break last June - a venture which provides women with educational programming, resources and basically all the tools they need to get the very best out of themselves. According to the initiative’s promotional description, they see themselves more as "a movement in the making" than a network, “a gateway for women to discover the tools we need to become our highest selves”.
On Friday, Savannah and April took to social media to announce another community project which they are running in conjunction with Let It Break and creative agency Crown + Conquer.
Helping those affected by the wildfires
Business partner April McDaniel shared in an Instagram post: “Let It Break and Crown + Conquer will be hosting a Fire Relief Initiative and community gathering event aimed to educate and support those who have been directly impacted by the SoCal fires in the Altadena area.
“Our priority is to provide essential resources and impactful tools to support the journey of rebuilding including, financial literacy workshops hosted by Chase, access to free products and services through Habitat for Humanity, expert guidance for insurance and FEMA roadblocks, mental health support and resources, monetary donations for participating families.”
Thousands of LA residents were impacted by the wildfires which broke out in the Santa Monica mountains on January 7. Approximately 30 people died and as many others injured as 610 fires ravaged 59,176 acres of land. Many lost their homes and life belongings with initial estimates calculating damage somewhere around $50-billion, although it is likely much higher.
“Whoever joins this organization is making space for themselves. They can use that space however they see fit,” McDaniel explains about Let It Break. “To build something where women are prioritizing themselves and also the community is just a really beautiful culmination.”
LeBron meanwhile is focused on getting the Lakers to the playoffs. The weekend win over Oklahoma takes them a step closer with four regular season games left to play. The Lakers take on the Thunder for the second time in four days on Tuesday at the Paycom Center.
