Mark Zuckerberg undergoes operation ahead of MMA fight against Elon Musk
The Meta CEO has gone under the knife due to a broken knee ligament. The tech boss suffered an injury during training.
Given the creation of his Meta/Facebook online universe, Mark Zuckerberg is without a doubt one of the most influential people on the planet. Now, the American magnate and CEO of Meta has now set alarms ringing after it was revealed that he has undergone surgery on a serious knee injury suffered while training for a reported MMA fight with Elon Musk.
The businessman suffered a broken anterior cruciate ligament injury on his left knee, he announced from his hospital bed: “Torn my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it. Grateful for the doctors and team taking care of me. I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that’s delayed a bit. Still looking forward to doing it after I recover. Thanks to everyone for the love and support.”
Zuckerberg was set to fight Musk
Zuckerberg will be out of the cages for a minimum of 6 months depending on how his recovery goes. The American has showed his love of fighting on various occasions and as for MMA, he has had the chance to train with some great names of the sport such as Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski. At the start of the year, the Facebook founder won both gold and silver medals at a jiu-jitsu competition.
The businessman revealed that before the injury he was “training for a competitive fight” which was set to take place at the start of next year. But who was going to be his opponent? Well, none other than Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter) and the main competitor to Meta, Zuckerberg’s empire. The two clashed over a failure of the launch of a SpaceX Facebook satellite in 2016. More recently, Musk has reportedly offered to send his Starlink satellite to Gaza.
Musk said Zuckerberg ‘chickened out’ of MMA clash
It is a rivalry that has gone on for years and the hate between the two is said by many to be real. Musk wanted to take the hostility to a cage, and challenged his rival to an MMA-rules fight, which is yet to take place. The X CEO assured that Zuckerberg was postponing the fight and that Musk himself was indeed a lot keener on the battle than his opponent.
“He chickened out”, Musk told the Joe Rogan Podcast, “Zuck pulled out. He used the pull out method... I said I’ll fight you any place, anywhere, with any rules... Italy were prepared to give us the Colosseum, but you have to respect it, it’s a historical place... I’m way bigger than him, I don’t think it’s fair, I’m like 50% bigger than him, I’ll just lie on him.
