Update:

A new documentary set for release later this month investigates the death of Matthew Perry, the Friends actor who died suddenly in October 2023.

The case is examined by experts in Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, with particular attention paid to his final days and those who were around the troubled star. It will premiere on February 25, beginning with audio of the dispatch call made when Perry was discovered unconscious.

A trailer for the documentary says: “This story has become so big that we’re really forgetting this story is about one man and that he will be missed.”

Did Matthew Perry die of ketamine overdose?

In the early hours of October 28, 2023 the 54-year-old was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles. He was pronounced dead that day and a cocktail of drugs was found to be in his system.

In December medical officials in LA announced that Perry appeared to have been under the influence of ketamine at the time of his death, likely contributing to drowning. Coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine were also cited as contributing factors.

Senior deputy medical examiner Raffi Djabourian wrote: “Drowning contributes due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness; coronary artery disease contributes due to exacerbation of ketamine induced myocardial effects on the heart.”

He had died as a result of ketamine,” agreed Martin Estrada, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California. “The defendants have all been charged. Three of them have pled guilty and will be cooperating. Two remain.”

“The allegations show a trained doctor is injecting Mr. Perry in parking lots,” he continues. “We used to blame victims. We don’t do that anymore.”
