‘Mean Girls’ movie musical adds another star to the fold

Many of the original ‘Mean Girls’ cast will appear in the musical adaptation, with Tina Fey reprising her role as the loveable high school teacher.

Mean Girls

Busy Philipps has agreed to star as Queen Bee Regina George’s mom in the movie musical adaptation of ‘Mean Girls’.

The ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ actress took to Instagram three times to share the news.

“You know something?” the 43-year-old actress wrote in the caption while sharing the Deadline article announcing her role. “I really never have been a regular mom … #meangirls.”

The quip is a famous quote from the movie, where Regina George’s mom reassures Georgina’s friends that they don’t have to worry about strict parents at her house.

“I’m not like a regular mom, I’m a cool mom,” the head mean girl’s mother tells the teenagers knowingly in the original movie.

The Instagram rounds

Busy Phillips reposted the same article in her Instagram stories, where she wrote, “Reader, She cried (From happiness for once.)”.

In a third Insta post about the role, Phillips gushed about being included in Tina Fey’s “universe”.

“The Tina Fey universe IS so real and omg how did I end up in it?” the actress wrote. “I’m grateful every day for her friendship and support,” she wrote.

The ‘Mean Girls’ musical

The movie musical was announced in January 2020 by writer Tina Fey. Fey will reprise her role as Mrs. Norbury, while Tim Meadows returns as Principal Duvall.

Fey wrote and is starring in the film, as well as acting as producer alongside Lorne Michaels. Jeff Richmond, Fey’s husband, wrote the original music with lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and Kyle Hanagami will be choreographing the film.

Angourie Rice is set to star as Cady Heron, and Renée Rapp will play Regina George, having played the role previously on Broadway. Avantika and Bebe Wood will play the Plastics, Karen and Gretchen, and Christopher Briney will play Aaron Samuels. Jenna Fischer will play Cady Heron’s mother in the movie musical.

Reports suggest the original ‘Mean Girls’ cast, including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried, may appear in the musical adaptation as well.
