Met Gala co-chairs and theme for 2023 unveiled
This year’s theme will be ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’.
Get ready fashion fans because the Met Gala is coming back for another year!
On January 18, it was announced that this year’s Met Gala theme would be ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ in honor of the late fashion icon who sadly passed away back in February 2019.
Along with announcing this year’s theme, the event co-chairs have also been announced. Singer/ songwriter Dua Lipa, sports star Roger Federer, ‘Zoolander’ actress Penélope Cruz, and ‘Chewing Gum’ star Michaela Coel will host the event alongside Vogue magazine’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
What is the Met Gala?
Founded in 1948, The Met Gala, or Met Ball, formally called the Costume Institute Gala or the Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.
The star-filled event also announces the beginning of the MET’s spring display.
When is the 2023 Met Gala?
This year’s Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 1 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

With tickets around $35,000 per person, the event is quite an expensive affair. As an alternative Vogue allows fashion fans to watch the red carpet at home through live streams on their website and digital platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Federer expressed on Instagram that he is “so excited” to pay tribute to his “dear friend” and bring this year’s theme ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ to life. It will explore the designer’s life and the changes he contributed to both the fashion industry and the world.
Who were the previous co-chairs of the Met Gala?
The Met has a long history of iconic themes and even bigger stars to be co-chairs alongside Wintour.
In 2022 the theme was “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” and the co-chairs consisted of Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Regina King.
As for 2021 Amanda Gorman, Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, and Naomi Osaka teamed up to bring the theme of ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,’ to life.
Sadly the 2020 Met Gala was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but it was supposed to be ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration,’ with co-chairs such as Meryl Streep, Nicolas Ghesquière, Emma Stone, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
In 2019 ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion,’ was brought to the Met Gala by Serena Williams, Harry Styles, Alessandro Michele, and Lady Gaga.
