Mia Goth to make MCU debut with Mahershala Ali in ‘Blade’ reboot
The ‘Pearl’ actress is making her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Mia Goth will be gracing the Marvel Cinematic Universe, joining Mahershala Ali in the upcoming ‘Blade’ reboot.
The movie is a reboot of the 90s/early 2000s ‘Blade’ trilogy that starred Wesley Snipes as the famed vampire hunter, itself based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.
The reboot will star Ali as Blade, the half-human, half-vampire vampire hunter, who is determined to avenge the death of his mother.
Who will Goth play?
The reboot will be directed by Yann Demange, with Michael Starrbury writing the script, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige set to produce.
Plot details have not been revealed, and it’s uncertain whether the reboot will follow any plot details of the film or comics. It is also uncertain which character Goth will portray, or if she will play a new character written solely for the reboot.
The reboot and Ali’s role were first announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic Con at Marvel Entertainment’s presentation, where the ‘Moonlight’ actor was received with applause and cheers.
“I don’t think I even noticed how — at least at that time — I was accustomed to there not being Black superheroes,” Ali said in Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast back in 2021.
“You just weren’t seeing anyone, but once ‘Spawn’ came out and ‘Blade’, then it was really exciting just to have some superheroes that looked like you in that place,” he added.
In the time since, Snipes has also shown his support for Ali on social media, despite some fans’ disappointment that Snipes wouldn’t be reprising his iconic role.
Ali had an uncredited voice cameo at the end of 2021′s ‘Eternals’, playing the character.
When will the new ‘Blade’ reboot be released?
The reboot has been given a release date of September 6, 2024. Filming is set to begin next month at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, before moving to New Orleans, Cleveland, and Morocco, according to Production Weekly, after it was meant to begin last July.
The movie’s development has been delayed after changes in directors and screenwriters. After original director Bassam Tariq left last September, Demange took on the mantle, with Starrbury rewriting the script originally written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour.
