Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ became the most streamed song in Spotify history for the second week in a row on January 26.

‘Flowers’ has gathered more than 105.6 million streams in two weeks, which is over double the amount of average streams the select few songs that have been the most streamed for two consecutive weeks have achieved.

Previously, SZA’s ‘Kill Bill’ spent two weeks as Spotify’s most-streamed song in October 2022. However, the song’s average streams only totaled 44.4 million for its two-week run.

The singer acknowledged this record-breaking moment by retweeting Spotify’s announcement of the news.

Continuing to break records

‘Flowers’ is also the fastest song to cross the 100 million streams mark on Spotify globally. It also debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In addition, ‘Flowers’ has spent another week at Number One in the UK Charts, making this Cyrus’ longest-running UK Number One single. Close behind are previous hits ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball’, which both peaked at number one for just one week.

‘Flowers’ is a huge milestone for Cyrus as it is her first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since her release of ‘Wrecking Ball’ in 2013. It means the singer now has two number-one Billboard chart singles and 11 songs that have entered the chart’s top 10.

The singer took to Instagram to celebrate this achievement, with the caption: “Thankful that Flowers is Number 1 around the world. This song is dedicated to my fans & the steadfast self love I wish for each of you. Forever grateful, Miley.”

The song has also had quite the success on the video-sharing app TikTok. More than 1.7 million video posts are using ‘Flowers’ as the sound.

The song has seamlessly become an anthem for the TikTok trend of women celebrating “self-dating” and “self-love,” which are two core themes of the song’s lyrical message.

TikTok users are using the song to inspire themselves and take themselves on dates. These short-form videos featuring Cryus’s song showcase the fun activities they have been enjoying alone.

One user, named Megan, took herself on a Barns and Nobles book-themed date. The video gathered over 64,000 likes so far and hundreds of supportive comments encouraging the idea of “self dates.”
