Update:

We’ve all heard of Miss America—but have you heard of Mrs. America?

The competitions are quite similar, but in the case of Mrs. America, the contestants are married. And yes, to be eligible for Miss America, you must be unmarried. The organizers of Mrs. America proudly note that it was the first pageant “to celebrate married women and their families.”

The first Mrs. America was crowned in 1971, with Ruth Johnson from California taking the title. The 2025 Mrs. America pageant was held on August 26 in Las Vegas, and this year’s winner was Paige Ewing, Mrs. Georgia. Ewing describes herself as a “transitional life strategist” who has been married since 2005. Her personal website says she works to “customizes daily schedules for women to implement practical habits in order to maintain healthy self-care so they can better serve their families, businesses, and communities.” Ewing, her husband Michael, and their two daughters live outside of Atlanta, Georgia.

The 1st runner-up at this year’s event was Mrs. Texas, Jennifer Swanson, and the 2nd runner-up was Mrs. West Virginia, Jessica Knox.

There’s been some crossover between Miss Teen America, Miss America, and Mrs. America. For example, Mekayla (Diehl) Eppers, who won Mrs. America in 2017, was previously crowned Miss Indiana USA in 2014 and went on to place in the top 20 at Miss USA that same year. Similarly, Nicole (Rash) Cook, Mrs. Indiana, was the first runner-up at the 2008 Miss America pageant and later won titles as Ms. Missouri and Ms. America in 2012.

Mrs. America heads to Mrs. World

Like Miss America, the winner of Mrs. America goes on to represent the U.S. at Mrs. World. The Mrs. America titleholder has won the global crown six times, with the most recent U.S. win in 2013, when Kaley Sparling of Idaho took home the title.

The 2025 Mrs. World competition will be held in January 2026. The current Mrs. World is Tshego Gaelae from South Africa.
