Netflix announced ‘Scott Pilgrim’ anime series voiced by original cast

Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Chris Evans will return to the ‘Scott Pilgrim’ anime

An anime series based on the ‘Scott Pilgrim’ graphic novels is coming to Netflix and the original cast of ‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World’ will reprise their roles as voice actors.

Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Aubrey Plaza, Satya Bhabha, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Jason Schwartzman, Alison Pill, Ellen Wong, and several more are all on board with the project.

The series will also include new cast members who will be announced at a later date.

The plot

In the original graphic novel series and films the protagonist Scott (Michael Cera) falls for a mysterious Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and must defeat her seven previous lovers or ‘evil exes’, in order to date her.

The 2010 romantic comedy film was a major success earning the praises of many famous directors at the time including Quentin Tarantino. The film today has an 82 percent approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb.

Behind-the-scenes roles

‘Scott Pilgrim’ creator Bryan Lee O’Malley will co-write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner of the anime series. Along with BenDavid Grabinski, who is known for his work on the TV Series ‘Are you Afraid of the Dark?’

‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ director Edgar Wright is also among the executive producers. In the press release for the upcoming project, Wright called the original film, “one of the proudest and most enjoyable achievements of [his] career.”

“Since the film’s release in 2010 we’ve done Q&As, remembrances and charity read throughs, but there was never the occasion to reunite the whole gang on an actual project. Until now…” he trailed off.

“Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski have conjured up an anime series of ‘Scott Pilgrim’ that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also… well, just watch it. I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat,” he explained.

Science Saru will serve as the animation team behind the reboot and Anamanaguchi who composed the music for the original ‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World’ video game will be working on the score alongside Joseph Trapanese.

Netflix also released a video announcing the first round of casting choices.
