Popular streaming giant Netflix is making a name for itself at the Academy Awards, landing 16 nominations for Netflix Original Films at this year’s prestigious event. The 95th Oscars Awards ceremony will take place March 12 and will be broadcasted on ABC and streamed on Disney+.

The most-nominated film on the Netflix Original list is ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ with nine nominations, with crowd favorite ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, ‘Bardo’, and ‘Blonde’ each picking up one nomination.

Other Netflix Original films to receive the honor of an Oscar nomination are ‘The Sea Beast’, ‘Pinocchio’, ‘The Elephant Whisperers’, ‘The Martha Mitchell Effect’, and ‘RRR’.

The official Netflix Twitter account posted Tuesday, “Congrats to everyone involved with our 16 Academy Award nominations this morning — we couldn’t be more proud!!”

Last year, Netflix picked up 27 Academy Award nominations, with Disney close behind at 24 and 20th Century Studios picking up eight.

‘All Quiet on the Western Front’

The well-decorated film, ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, which follows the life of Paul Bäumer, a young German soldier during World War I, showcases the fresh, up-and-coming talent Hollywood has to offer.

The lead role is played by Felix Kammerer, the idealistic young man who enlisted in the army with a group of friends against his parents wishes — but after experiencing the reality of war, he must cope with his shattered hopes of valor and adapt to survive. Kammerer, a newcomer to the movie industry, commented how it felt to see himself on screen for the first time.

In an interview with Deadline, the rising star emphasized that it was a relief that he couldn’t identify with what he saw on the screen and that it was important for him to be “detached” from the role.

“I really liked that I couldn’t see myself on the screen. I had nothing to do with that person. It felt like it was Paul on the screen and me watching this person,” the 27-year-old explained. “For me, that’s a great sign that I have detached from that role so clearly. When I feel that I’m totally fine with what I’m seeing and doing, while at the same time I don’t feel that it’s me, that’s a very important factor. That’s how I know I’ve done a good job.”
