Nicolas Cage spent a fortune on Lisa Marie Presley’s engagement ring - Then he tossed it in the Ocean
Priscilla Presley recalls the “epic fights” between Cage and her daughter, including a $65,000 ring tossed overboard.
Hollywood stars Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley had a brief marriage that lasted just over two years, from August 2002 to November 2004. According to the late singer’s mother, the relationship showed signs of trouble early on.
“Epic fights” at sea
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Priscilla Presley revealed Cage and Lisa Marie, who died at 54 in 2023, had several “epic fights” during their four years together. One notable incident involved Cage throwing an expensive engagement ring, reportedly worth $65,000, into the ocean.
“One afternoon, they went sailing off the coast of Catalina Island on Nick’s yacht, the Weston,” Presley explained. “Something set off another of their epic fights, and Lisa pulled off her engagement ring and threw it at Nick… Furious, Nick threw the ring overboard.”
Cage immediately regretted the action and allegedly sent divers after the jewelry, only for them to resurface empty handed. He later proposed to Presley a second time with a bigger, more expensive ring, perhaps feeling guilty.
A life of high-profile marriages
Lisa Marie, the daughter of Elvis Presley, was previously married to Michael Jackson from 1994 to 1996. She wed the “King of Pop” just 20 days after her divorce from first husband Danny Keough was finalized.
Presley had two children with Keough, whom she married from 1988 to 1994, and two more with guitarist Michael Lockwood, whom she married after her split from Cage.
She died in January 2023 from complications from bariatric surgery, which is a weight loss procedure.
Cage has been married five times, starting with Academy Award-winning actress Patricia Arquette. The 57-year-old married fifth wife Riko Shibata, 31 years his junior, in Las Vegas in 2021. Cage has one son with actress Christina Fulton, a second son with third wife Alice Kim, and a daughter with Shibata.
