After almost 15 years to the day, Oasis announced their reunion in the shape of a UK and Ireland Tour on Tuesday (August 27), with primary songwriter Noel Gallagher and brother Liam, the band’s frontman, having finally buried the hatchet after a long-running feud.

Why did Oasis split up?

Moments before the Manchester group were due on stage at the Rock en Seine festival near Paris on August 28, 2009, indie band Bloc Party, who were on before them, revealed Oasis wouldn’t, in fact, be performing.

“It is with some sadness and great relief...I quit Oasis tonight,” read a statement Noel on the Oasis website soon after. “People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”.

Rumours abound as to what actually happened, with suggestions that Liam damaging Noel’s guitar during a backstage argument was what tipped the elder Gallagher over the edge. Ever since they had come into the public eye in the 1990s, media spats had been commonplace, although they had always manage to just about make up and make music.

How Oasis got back together

According to British media, a late-night phone call led to them patching things up, with both brothers sharing a teaser video on social media on Sunday suggesting an announcement of some sort would be made on Tuesday (August 27) at 8pm UK time (3am ET).

And it has now revealed a series of upcoming comeback Oasis concerts, all of which will take place in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

However, after the announcement was made, the band’s official website stated that “plans are underway for OASIS LIVE ‘25 to go to other continents outside of Europe later next year,” which is likely to mean some North American shows.

When was Oasis’ last gig in the United States?

US-based fans will therefore have to wait to see Oasis in the flesh once again, although it does now seem as if the English band will indeed venture stateside at some point in the future. The last gig the Britpop stars played in the United States was at Patriot Center (now EagleBank Arena) in Fairfax, Virginia on December 20, 2008 as part of their Dig Out Your Soul Tour, their most recent concert tour to date.
