Orlando Bloom reveals he was the butt of all the jokes in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ because of his character
Bloom recalls being teased on set and says he’d hate to see anyone else play Legolas.
Filming ‘The Lord of the Rings’ was quite an experience. Orlando Bloom, who played Legolas in the trilogy, returned for The Hobbit and says he’s eager to put on the wig again to play the elf one more time. But during filming, his co-stars couldn’t resist teasing him – though it wasn’t really his fault, it was his character’s.
Like all elves, Legolas is immortal and doesn’t age. Well, immortal unless someone stabs him with a sword or shoots him with a couple of arrows – because even elves can die then. During the Fan Expo in Chicago, Bloom revealed that he was the target of jokes from Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood, and Liv Tyler. The reason? He never got dirty – always spotless.
Legolas doesn’t bleed
“I was the butt of all the jokes because I never got dirty,” Bloom said with a laugh, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.“Legolas never bleeds, he never gets dirty. Viggo loved to talk about my beautiful hair, clean face, hands, nails, and all that. It was fun.”
Orlando Bloom also made it clear that he doesn’t want anyone else wearing Legolas’s wig. While it hasn’t been confirmed whether he’ll return for The Hunt for Gollum, the upcoming film, the actor has already shown interest.
“Let me promise you this – listen: if Legolas is part of it, any installment they’re making, then I hope I get that call, because I’d hate to see anyone else doing it,” he said in an interview with This Morning. “But I honestly don’t know what the story is. I know it’s about Gollum, so it’s possible. Of course I’d do it. I wouldn’t want anyone else to play Legolas.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum premieres on December 17, 2027.
