Pearl Jam’s new high-octane ‘Dark Matter’ single is out

The first new music from Pearl Jam is here since their 2000 Gigaton album in the shape of the new single ‘Dark Matters’ with the single a rousing reflection of the modern world with its hypnotic “still everybody else pays, for someone else’s mistake” line.

The single precedes the new studio album of the same name and was principally recorded at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La (Malibu, California) last year and was produced by Andrew Watt.

Clocking in at 3 minutes and 31 seconds, ‘Dark Matters’ has a pounding rhythm with crashing guitars not unreminsicant of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Foxy Lady’ with the track now available digitally with a special edition 7″ vinyl single also set to be issued.

Dark Matters album and tour

The album sees the light of day on 19 April and is currently available for pre-order on all major platforms (Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal etc). The album will also be released in a vinyl format as well as a standard CD plus deluxe edition CD/Blu Ray version.

Formed in Seattle in 1990, Pearl Jam broke into the mainstream with their debut album, Ten, in 1991. Ten stayed on the Billboard 200 chart for nearly five years, and has gone on to become one of the highest-selling rock records ever, going 13× Platinum in the United States.

Dark Matter will be the band’s twelfth studio release with the album’s packaging features light painting art by Alexandr Gnezdilov with the cover art crafted using a large self-made kaleidoscope.
