Update:

After eighteen years of marriage, designer Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce from actor Kevin Costner on 1 May 2023. Sadly, the divorce appears to be creating a series of disagreements over the separation assets, most notably the couple’s homes in Carpinteria, California.

The prenuptial agreement signed by the pair before they were married states, according to Costner’s legal team, that in the case the couple divorced, the home would remain his. Samantha Kubota and Diana Dasrath, reporting for Today, reviewed documents filed in the Santa Barbara Superior Court on 9 June that speak to the agreements made in the prenup. The two reporters spoke with Costner’s legal team, who emphasized their client’s line of argumentation. Baumgartner stands accused of refusing to leave the home unless Costner caves to her “financial demands.” Baumgartner and her legal team did not respond for comment making it difficult to construct a narrative that both sides may agree fairly represent the situation.

Keeping the home is seen as very important for Costner

Costner prioritized keeping his home in the prenuptial agreement due to the emotional impact of losing it during his divorce from his former spouse, Cindy Silva. Although a prenup is a legally binding document that may result in Baumgartner being required to vacate the property, such cases can be complicated and often involve legal challenges.
