Prince Harry schedules first appearance since release of ‘Spare’
The Duke of Sussex will appear alongside actress Issa Rae and other celebrity guests at the BetterUp conference in March.
Mark your calendar as Prince Harry has scheduled his first appearance since the January 10 release of his memoir, ‘Spare’, which chronicles his time in the palace prior to his official stepping back from royal duties.
The 38-year-old, who has been BetterUp’s Chief Impact Officer since 2021 when he first left his senior Royal role to move to California with wife Meghan Markle, will join Issa Rae and a host of other celebrities to speak at the platform’s two-day summit held in San Francisco on March 7 and 8. Virtual registration for the event is free.
BetterUp, a coaching and mental health company, announced that the Duke of Sussex will join Rae, who is best known for her work on the HBO series ‘Insecure’. She’s also earned multiple nominations for both Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy Awards, along with David Chang, Robin Arzón, Adam Grant and others.
According to the organization’s statement published by People, the event will center around issues of “purpose, performance and human transformation.”
The Prince’s recent memoir went into detail about his own mental health, reflecting on how the tragic loss of his mother, Princess Diana, impacted him at a young age, as well as his stint in the military serving in Afghanistan.
Prince Harry speaks out about mental health
The Duke of Sussex has a history advocating for mental health, and said in an interview with People that he hopes his advocacy work will set an example for his kids.
“A husband and a father — first and foremost — as well as a veteran, environmentalist and mental health advocate. I know that I want to live my life in service of others and that I want to live by example for my kids,” he said.
Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at BetterUp’s October conference last year, where he joined the company’s CEO Alexi Robichaux and entrepreneur Reid Hoffman for a talk about “the democratization of coaching to make sure we can get it to the masses,” entitled ‘The Mental Game’.
“I never, ever, ever thought I would be sitting on this stage saying, ‘Therapy is good, and coaching will change your life’ or ‘both will change your life,’” Harry said onstage at the event. “And the more people that we can get that to, the better.”
