Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway to Windsor Castle on Thursday.

The two royal couples have met before, and took this opportunity to get acquainted and discuss issues pertaining to the environment.

A meeting between two future kings

Prince William and Prince Haakon reunited in the UK, but under new circumstances, as Prince William is now heir to the throne.

At the royal meeting between the two future kings and their wives, the Prince and Princess of Wales hosted Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit in Windsor Castle to discuss mutual concerns about the environment, according to Kensington Palace.

Following the meeting, the four royals met with representatives from the three leading green energy solutions companies in Norway.

The meeting consisted of a round-table style discussion with Alex Grant, the Senior Vice President and UK Country Manager at Equinor, along with Øivind Eriksen, CEO of Aker ASA, and Børre Jacobsen, the Managing Director of Northern Lights JV.

Joining them was Norwegian Ambassador to the U.K., Wegger Christian Strømmen.

A history between the Waleses and the Norwegian royalty

Prince William and Princess Kate spent time with Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit in Oslo, while the couple was visiting Sweden and Norway in February 2018 on a ski trip. While on their skiing tour, the Prince and Princess of Wales went to one of Oslo’s famous landmarks, the Holmenkollen Ski Jump at the Holmenkollen resort.

The Norwegian royal couple’s visit to England had been scheduled for September, but was postponed due to Queen Elizabeth’s death. The King and Queen of Norway, King Harald and Queen Sonja, attended the Westminster Abbey state funeral service for the late monarch.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit returned the 2018 favor and visited the UK that same year to go to King Charles’ 70th birthday bash at Buckingham Palace.
