Radio host almost arrested for trying to leave Meghan Markle’s party

An Australian radio host recalled being threatened by security when he tried to leave a formal event where the Duchess of Sussex was hours late.

An Australian talk radio host, Joel Creasey, has revealed that he was once threatened with arrest if he left a party hosted by the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. Creasey, who was among the guests waiting several hours for the Duchess of Sussex to arrive at her own function, was threatened with arrest if he left the premises.

The formal morning tea party, in which Markle was reportedly five hours late to, was held in the years before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially shed their roles as senior members of the Royal Family.

What happened at Meghan Markle’s tea party?

Joel Creasey recounted the experience when he joined Fitzy and Wippa on channel Nova 96.9, noting that it was his fellow comedian Josh Thomas who was originally invited to come.

The radio show comedian said that he was among a large group of international youth leaders called to attend the tea, but he got bored when the duchess was a no-show for several hours, so he made a move to leave. He was then told by security that if he left the grounds he would be arrested.

“She was still a member of the Royal Family at the time,” Creasey recalled. “And I went to a morning tea for youth leaders aged under 30.”

Elaborating on how he went to the event in the first place, Creasey said he piggybacked on his pal Thomas’ invite.

“I just snuck in,” the radio host explained. “I think the invite was for Josh Thomas and I took it. I went along and she was five hours late.”

You can come but you can’t leave

After several hours of waiting, Creasey got bored and decided to make a discreet exit. The comedian called Meghan Markle’s late arrival “a Madonna”, apparently referring to Madonna’s history of showing up late to her own events.

“She’s done a Madonna. I said, ‘Can I leave? I don’t care about her that much,’ and security said, ‘No, you can’t leave. We’ll arrest you.’”

“And I’m like, ‘Wow.’ Turns out it’s easier to leave the Royal Family than it is one of their events! So we didn’t really hit it off.”

The Daily Mail Australia has said that they contacted both Buckingham Palace and Markle’s representatives for a comment.
