Pop superstar Rihanna told Vogue that she doesn’t remember life before motherhood because it doesn’t matter anymore.

She may have won nine Grammys and owned the Super Bowl 57 Halftime show, but all that really matters to singing superstar Rihanna is being a mother.

Rihanna had her first baby in May 2022 with her partner A$AP Rocky, then hinted and later confirmed at her 2023 Super Bowl comeback performance that she is pregnant with her second child.

Rihanna’s life since being a mom

In an interview with Vogue, Rihanna said that everything is so different since having a child, that she barely recognizes her old life anymore.

“It’s legendary. It’s everything. You really don’t remember life before, that’s the craziest thing ever,” she said, elaborating that when she looks back at old pictures, those things she used to care about don’t matter as much anymore.

“You literally try to remember it – and there are photos of my life before – but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don’t identify with it because you don’t even allow yourself mentally to get that far, because…because it doesn’t matter.”

When Rihanna gave birth

When asked about how the birth went the first time, the 34-year-old mother said it was “beautiful” and she felt “blessed” by the miracle of having a child.

“I cannot believe it. Essentially, from one person I became two. You walk into the hospital as a couple and leave as a family of three. It’s nuts,” Rihanna elaborated.

When she first brought the baby home, Rihanna remembered what it was like to be apart from her baby even just to shower.

“You are joyful when you get the time to shower,” the singer said. “You know, I remember in the beginning I used to roll his bassinet into the bathroom and be showering and like wiping the fog off [the glass] just to peep at him.”

“[Mornings] were always my favorite, his little wake-up face, seeing his face change, seeing his color come in, just all of these changes.”

On early motherhood

Rihanna recalled that she couldn’t believe the hospital sends a new mother home so quickly, and revealed that sometimes she felt unequipped as a mother to care for her child without a professional to help.

“Those first days are insane. You don’t sleep. At all. Not even if you wanted to. We came home, cold turkey, had no one. It was just us as parents and our baby. Man, you’re a zombie for the most part,” the ‘Umbrella’ singer said.

“You’re just going through the motions, and even then you’re so paranoid. Because you’re like: they trusted us to come home with this baby? This new life? With us?”

Rihanna laughs, “No doctors, no nurses, we’re just… going home?”
