Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are taking seriously their roles as co-owners of the Wrexham AFC, the Welsh soccer team the pair of actors bought in February 2021.

Reynolds has even gone so far as purchasing property a few miles away from the team’s pitch in North Wales, and attends local Wrexham council meetings.

Reynolds is making it official

The Hollywood actors are making big plans for the Wrexham AFC. Reynolds and McElhenney have trademarked the Wrexham AFC name through their holding company, R.R. McReynolds Company LLC, with the hopes to turn the soccer club into a global brand.

Reynolds has reportedly been granted copyright protection for several names related to the club in the United States and the United Kingdom, including ‘Wrexham FC’, ‘Wrexham FC 1864′, and ‘Wrexham Is The Name’, with ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, the name of their docuseries, pending.

What does the trademark mean?

Having the brand trademarked means that the co-owners can produce and sell fan clothing and accessories with the team’s logo and branding, including club replica kits, sports gear, and children’s toys.

A new line of hats has been featured already, with McElhenney spotting the chapeau Monday night at the Notts County competition.

Is Wrexham FC close to the pro league?

The soccer club is yet to win the 103 regular season points necessary to gain professional league status in the second tier league, but they are well on their way and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are dreaming big for the team.

After already releasing a Netflix docuseries about the team, the Wrexham soccer club is now famous.

Now, with the team stepping up their game to take pro league rival Notts County 3-2 Monday evening, the Twitterverse went wild with even more mentions than the Liverpool and Arsenal game the day before.
