There was an outpouring of emotions at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday as Wrexham were promoted to the Football League in front of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The Welsh club secured their return to the Football League for the first time in 15 years in style thanks to a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood.

While fans stormed the field after the final whistle was blown, the cameras turned to the famous co-owners in the stands.

Reynolds and McElhenney visibly moved by Wrexham win

The two bought the club back for $2.5 million back in November 2020, and the moment wasn’t lost on either one of them.

Reynolds and McElhenney were shown embracing one another as they celebrated the promotion, with the ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ co-creator wiping away tears from his eyes.

Earlier in the day, Reynolds admitted to fans and journalists that he was “terribly nervous”, and the sense of relief after the final whistle was noticeable on his face.

“I am not sure I can process what happened tonight. I am still little speechless,” Reynolds told BT Sport after the match.

“[People ask] “Why Wrexham?”. This is why Wrexham. This happening, right now, is why.

“Boreham Wood showed up today. They are an incredible team. They have one of the best defences in the entire league.

“This entire story, the reason we are all on edge of our seats is because Notts County are so damn good. They deserve to go up. We are rooting for Notts County. We want to see them go up.”

Paul Rudd was in attendance as well

The two Hollywood A-listers were joined by Paul Rudd for the occasion. The 54-year-old was one of the more than 10,000 who took in the game at the grounds.

Earlier in the day, Rudd was spotted taking pictures with supporters and enjoying a pint at The Turf pub.

He even had a drink with landlord Wayne Jones, who’s fame has increased thanks to the hit Disney+ series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Kate Middleton and Prince William join in on the Wrexham celebrations

Rudd’s appearance at the game shows how the club have grown in stature since Reynolds and McElhenney took over.

The victory and promotion even got a response from the Prince of Wales, who posted on the Kensington Royal Twitter account.

“Congratulations @Wrexham_AFC! A club with such amazing history, looking forward to a very exciting future back in the Football League. Doing Wales proud. W,” she wrote.

As for Prince William, he wrote: “Congratulations @Wrexham_AFC! A club with such amazing history, looking forward to a very exciting future back in the Football League. Doing Wales proud. W.”
