Anitta to release new collab with Sam Smith

Just a week after Sam Smith and the queen of pop, Madonna, teased their upcoming song together, Smith has also confirmed that he and Brazilian pop star Anitta are releasing their own duet.

Both Smith and Anitta are two of the biggest stars in pop music right now, with Anitta becoming one of the most recognizable Brazilian pop stars to come out of the tropical country.

A collab based on genuine friendship

Smith gushed about the upcoming collab in a recent cover story on Anitta with Harper’s Bazaar.

“Anitta’s energy is amazing,” Smith said of the ‘Envolver’ singer. “We connected immediately, and it just made the collaboration feel so special that there was genuine friendship there.”

Smith also praised Anitta’s “clear vision” for what she wants to accomplish as an artist.

Anitta’s vision for the future of her carer

Anitta split from Warner Music after being signed to the record label for 11 years, citing difficulty with the label being unwilling to back certain singles, including their hesitancy to release the hit reggaeton song ‘Envolver’, from her trilingual 2022 album ‘Versions of Me’, which finds Anitta singing in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Three weeks after her split with Warner, she signed with Republic Records, owned by Universal.

“I want to build a whole strategy because I don’t want to leave that in my label’s hands,” she said of her future work in her Harper’s Bazaar cover story.

“All the others I was leaving at their hands. That’s why it didn’t go that well. Crazy. But this I want to go massive. So I’m going to do it myself.”

Prior to being released from her Warner contract, Anitta vented to fans about how unhappy she was with the record company.

“My love, if I had a fine to pay, I would have already auctioned off my organs, no matter how expensive it was to get out. But unfortunately, it doesn’t [work that way],” she told a fan in her native Portuguese on Twitter back in March.

“When you’re young and still don’t know much, you have to pay close attention to the things you sign… if not you can spend a lifetime paying for the mistake.”

She has also spoken on Warner’s lack of funding for music videos, with Anitta footing the bill for ‘Gata’ released last August.

“They only invest after it pays off on the internet,” she told fans in an Instagram Live.

“Unfortunately, there are things I can’t get, that’s why I don’t buy millionaire cars because when I want to do something, I pay for it.”
