Sam Smith laughs off Adele in drag rumor
Smith took the chance to set the record straight on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’
Sam Smith (who goes by they/ them pronouns) ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ when they brought a conspiracy theory to light that fans suspect the 30-year-old is Adele but in drag.
When making an appearance as a guest on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ on January 23 the ‘ET’ star took the chance to ask the ‘Unholy’ singer her burning questions.
“What’s the craziest rumor you’ve ever heard about yourself,” Barrymore asked.
After a quick moment to think they responded “Everyone seems to think that I’m Adele… in drag,”
They went on to explain how deep the theory goes saying it started “because we’ve never been seen in the same room together, and if you slow down her voice it sounds maybe a bit like mine,”
“So people think that we’re the same person and I’m just in drag right now.” Smith laughed.
This isn’t the first time the singer has gone viral.
Ed Sheeran sent Smith a massive congratulations gift.
Coincidentally, when on another talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in 2022, Smith revealed Grammy-award-winning singer Ed Sheeran gave them the craziest gift they’ve ever received to date.
When asked about a rumor that Sheeran was giving the ‘Dancing With a Stranger’ singer a trophy Smith explained how they thought it was a joke.
“It’s actually wild like I thought it was a joke,” Smith explained. “But it’s a six-foot-two marble penis that weighs two tons and I have to get it craned into my house.”
Smith went on to reveal that they have hopes to turn it into a fountain and that they’re also not the first artist to receive this gift, with Sheeran sending the first one to ‘Rocket Man’ singer Elton John.
Fans continue to feed the rumor of Smith and Adele.
After Smith spoke about the rumor, fans and viewers took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the conspiracy theory.
One user wrote “Sam Smith said people think they are Adele in drag because they’ve never been in the same room together and it reminded me of when someone said they thought I was successful broadcaster and billionaire Oprah Winfrey because we’d never been in the same room together either x
While another user wrote “The only way I’m gonna believe that Adele & Sam Smith are two different people is when they Collab on a song together. Nothing else is gonna change my mind.”
