Schwarzenegger and DeVito vs Keaton from Tim Burton’s Batman

The 2024 Academy Awards ceremony as ever brought together a stellar group of stars, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, who not only presented two categories but also share a history as Batman villains, with the caped crusader himself, Michael Keaton, in attendance.

Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin, while DeVito portrayed The Penguin in Batman Returns. Michael Keaton donned the superhero’s cape in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), and more recently in The Flash (2023).

After taking the stage to present the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, Schwarzenegger and DeVito realized they both had attempted (and failed) to kill Batman. Danny asked Arnold how Batman defeated him, and Arnold joked it was with the “power of love,” while DeVito quipped that the superhero threw him out of a window. “Batman, you son of a bitch,” Schwarzenegger exclaimed.

Then, both turned their attention to Keaton in the audience. “You’ve got a lot of nerve showing your face here,” Arnold said. The acting duo, who also starred together in the film ‘Twins,’ playfully challenged Keaton to a fight, while the Batman actor gestured with his hands, indicating he was ready for it.

As to the categories they presented, Godzilla Minus One won the award for Best Visual Effects. They also introduced the nominees for Best Editing, a category won by Jennifer Lame for her work on Oppenheimer.
