‘Scream VI’: Release date, trailer, cast, plot

Everyone’s favorite slasher franchise is returning to theatres, with ‘Scream VI’ set to deliver more thrills and scares to fans.

Following the success of ‘Scream’ in 2022, the franchise is shaking things up, though you can still expect the usual meta-commentary on the horror genre the films are known for.

‘Scream VI’ release date

‘Scream VI’ will hit theaters on March 10, 2023. The movie was given the green light after the success of ‘Scream’ last year, showing that fans are still enthralled by the franchise, which first debuted back in 1996.

Filming for the new film began in the summer of 2022, making it the shortest wait time between two instalments in the franchise since ‘Scream’ and ‘Scream 2′ back in 1996 and 1997.

The first trailer shows that fans can expect more scares as Ghostface sets off for more victims, this time in New York.

There are scenes featuring Gale Weathers being attacked in her apartment, to a subway car filled with Ghostfaces, as well as tense situation in a convenience store.

‘Scream VI’ cast

In terms of the cast, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega return as Sam and Tara from ‘Scream’ as they further entrench themselves as the new leads in the franchise.

This is because ‘Scream VI’ will be the first ‘Scream’ not to feature Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott.

Although Campbell won’t play a role in the film, Courtney Cox is back as Gale Weathers, while Hayden Panettiere returns as Kirby Reed after fans thought her character was killed off in ‘Scream IV’.

Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding return as the brother-sister duo of Mindy and Chad from the last film, while new cast members include Jack Champion, Josh Segarra, Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori.

Dermot Mulroney also joins the film as a detective.

‘Scream VI’ plot

“Four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start in New York City,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

“However, they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when a new killer embarks on a bloody rampage.”

The film will trade in the familiar setting of Woodsboro for New York, with sisters Samantha (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega), along with Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks (Jasmin Savoy Brown), looking to start over following the events of ‘Scream’.

However, once there, they are once again plagued by a series of murders, with a new Ghostface killer causing more panic.
