In the latest single released on Friday by Latin music stars Shakira and Karol G, Shakira expresses a moment of vulnerability when she admits that it hurt to see her ex-husband, Gerard Piqué, with his new girlfriend.

This is the second song Shakira has released about her former relationship. The first was with Argentinian producer Bizarrap when the artist memorably released a YouTube video of her singing the song in the studio back in January.

Lyrics that are both vulnerable and fierce

Karol G starts off the song by singing, “Whoever told you that you can fill your emptiness with another person lied to you, It’s like covering up a scar with makeup: you can’t see it, but you can feel it/ You left saying you got over me and got a new girlfriend/ But she doesn’t know that you still watch all my stories.”

Shakira’s verse begins with the singer saying: “Seeing you with your new girl hurt me/ But now I’m focused on myself/ I already forgot we had/ And you can’t stand it,” she sang before reiterating that she’s in a better place.

“You’re not welcome over here/ I saw what your girlfriend said to me, That doesn’t make me angry/ it makes me laugh (makes me laugh).”

The chorus finds both Shakira and Karol G singing to their exes (real or imagined) to tell their new girlfriends that they don’t fight over men and to stop causing drama.

A dream collab for Karol G

“My collaboration with Shakira is a dream come true. She’s always been a reference point for me, while also being a fellow Colombian. She’s one of those artists that I’ve always seen and made me hope to one day represent my country the way she has,” Karol G said in an exclusive interview with El Colombiano.

“Working with Shakira has been an enriching experience, and I’ve learned so much from her. I have such a profound admiration for her.”

The Shakira collab is one of the singles from her latest album ‘Mañana Será Bonito’, which was also released on Friday.
