In addition to the numerous awards she continues to receive following her separation from Gerard Piqué, Shakira will soon witness the completion of a new tribute: a statue standing over six meters tall that is being prepared for her in Barranquilla, her hometown in Colombia.

Celebratory Shakira statue

Images of this statue can now be seen, shared on the Instagram account of the mayor of the city, Jaime Pumarejo, who uploaded a video featuring the sculptor explaining the progress of the modeling process.

As evident from the images, this endeavor is well underway and may possibly be unveiled in the coming weeks. It’s a recognition that the artist will undoubtedly appreciate, especially after several months of significant changes following her separation and relocation to Miami with her children, which involved complex negotiations with the former footballer regarding custody.

Shakira: six meters in bronze

The statue of the multi-Grammy award-winning artist, which stands at 6.2 meters tall, is being crafted by local artist Yino Márquez and will be finished in bronze. The community, through a consultation promoted by the City Hall, will decide on its eventual placement.

“We’re starting with her dress, which we will transform into waves of the sea. Here, you see these lines that will become water,” explains the sculptor in the video.

“This recognizes the Barranquillan artist, a Colombian, who elevated our culture onto a global platform. But it’s also an opportunity for Yino and those working with him, including students from the EDA, to showcase that artistic expressions like this can be created in Barranquilla,” says the mayor.
