COPA AMÉRICA 2024
Shakira’s message after Colombia reach Copa América final 2024
The Colombian superstar was quick to made her feelings known after her nation’s semifinal victory over Uruguay.
The Colombian national football team has reached the final of the Copa América after defeating Uruguay in the semifinals and is now gearing up to face Argentina, who secured their spot with victory over Canada. In addition to featuring these two football powerhouses from South America, the grand final of the CONMEBOL tournament will be filled with other surprises, including Shakira performing during halftime.
However, her participation isn’t the only thing the singer is celebrating. She has also shared a message following her national team’s win, as they aim to win their second championship in the history of this tournament. “Go Colombia! We have a great team! See you this Sunday at the Copa América final!” Shakira posted on social media.
Shakira’s presentation for the Copa América final
Shakira’s relationship with football continues, as she is the artist who delivered the official song for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Waka Waka. Let’s have a little reminder of just how good that was.
This week, CONMEBOL announced that the Colombian singer Shakira would be the official artist at the Copa América final, which will be held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday 14 July.
“Now, the time has come to announce the superstar who will be performing at the unforgettable Copa América final. A woman who represents and magnifies Latin American greatness around the world. Just like our football on that day, the final will be a celebration,” said Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL posted.
Shakira is expected to perform Puntería along with other hits from her musical career. The Grand Final of the Copa América is scheduled for 8 p.m. local Eastern Time.
What sporting events has Shakira performed at?
As well as Shakira singing Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) as the official anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, she has also performed at other sporting events. This included the closing ceremony of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the opening ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the halftime show of the 2010 NBA All-Star Game.
Add to that starring at the closing ceremony of the 2012 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the closing ceremony of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the 2019 Davis Cup, and then the spectacular 2020 Super Bowl alongside Jennifer Lopez, which coincidentally was also held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
