Shakira starts 2024 with a new album - her first in seven years, and will be going on the road to promote it. Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women No Longer Cry), Shakira’s 12th studio album was released by Sony last week and features a host of collaborations as well as vocal contributions from her children Milan and Sasha on Acróstico.

A whistlestop world tour of 30 countries is planned, including four dates at the Santiago Bernabéu. Details are expected to be announced this week, as the singer cryptically announced “at 7:15 p.m.”.

Heartbreak has left Shakira feeling sad, wounded, angry, and filled with rage... There’s nothing good that can come from such a feeling for someone who gave up everything to start a family far from her home with a footballer who, as she narrates in her breakup songs after announcing the split in 2022, was unfaithful to her.

Both Gerard Piqué, father of her children, and Clara Chía, his current partner (it’s not completely clear since when), were called out by Shakira in her session with the Argentine producer Bizarrap, which was a success from day one and has continued to bring her joy. Thus, although heartbreak left her heart saddened, these feelings could also have sparked a creativity that, however, would be filling her pockets, as reported by those close to her.

And indeed, as expressed by a close source to the Barranquilla native to the People en Español website, “she earns $50,000 a week.” That’s in the region of $600k per year. This would be the amount she receives solely for the streams of her songs on the Spotify platform. She is reported to have around 62.4 million monthly listeners on the music streaming platform, placing her around 25th in the global ranking. “In the United States alone, more than 165 million Spotify playlists include at least one Shakira song.”

In general, artists who accumulate one million streams on Spotify receive between $3,000 and $4,000 in royalties. However, while $50,000 may seem like a substantial amount for most, especially considering that’s per week, the best part for the artist is that Spotify streams are not her only sources of income.

Throughout her over three-decade career, it is estimated that the singer could have amassed a fortune of around $300 million, which would stem from album sales and worldwide tours. Additionally, Shakira is a regular collaborator on music talent shows in the United States and appeared as a judge on The Voice there. She also has her own line of perfumes and has even sold song rights to an investment firm for around $100 million.
