Shrek 5: when is it released and who are the actors who will voice the characters?
To the rhythm of the most legendary song of the series, DreamWorks has confirmed the fifth film in the saga and the famous voice actors behind it.
“Are we there, yet? Are we there, yet? Are we there, yet?...” Yes! It is time to return to Far, Far Away.
DreamWorks Animation has just officially announced Shrek 5, and has even set the release date for the movie, slated for July 1, 2026. Although there have been spin-offs like Puss in Boots, this fifth installment arrives 16 years after the fourth film, released back in 2010 as Shrek Forever After: The Final Chapter.
While no details on the storyline have been released yet, DreamWorks has confirmed the return of the original voice actors, with Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Díaz as Princess Fiona. This announcement was made alongside the unveiling of the first official poster and logo of the movie, dancing to the rhythm of All Star by Smash Mouth, the most iconic song of the series and the one that immediately comes to mind when thinking of the swamp. You can relive it above.
Another Shrek spin off starring Donkey
This fifth installment in the Shrek series is not the only one on the horizon. Murphy confirmed a few days ago that “Donkey will have his own movie.” The actor mentioned that recording for Shrek 5 had started “months ago” and that once it’s finished, they will begin work on the Donkey film. “We won’t be doing them at the same time,” he advised.
It looks like 2026 will be a landmark year for animation, as it’s also set to bring us Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, and Super Mario Bros. 2, among many others, if everything goes as planned.
