Star Wars ‘The Acolyte’: Cast, streaming platform and episode release dates
There’s a double dose of ‘The Hunger Games’ star Amandla Stenberg in the latest addition to the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.
‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ - just ‘The Acolyte’ to many - premiered on Disney+ with its first two episodes on Tuesday 4 June to generally positive reviews from critics, no mean feat given the level of expectation surrounding it, mainly due to its association with the rest of franchise.
What is ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ about?
Created by ‘Russian Doll’ director Leslye Headland, the series is set at the end of the ‘High Republic’ era, between 500 and 100 years before the start of the ‘Skywalker Saga,’ which George Lucas’ main ‘Star Wars’ film trilogy encompasses.
In ‘The Acolyte,’ Jedi peacekeepers are forced to investigate a series of crimes in conjunction with a former Padawan learner, who joins an old Master in exploring dark forces in a galaxy far, far away. But, of course, things aren’t quite as simple as that…
‘Hunger Games’ and ‘The Matrix’ stars switch to ‘Star Wars’
‘The Hunger Games’ star Amandla Stenberg plays the lead role as both ex-Padawan Osha Aniseya and her twin sister Mae, who had been presumed dead. ‘Squid Game’ lead Lee Jung-jae plays his first English-language role as Sol, a respected Jedi Master.
Other well-known faces include Dafne Keen (’Logan’) as a current Padawan, Jodie Turner-Smith (’After Yang’) as Mother Aniseya, the leader of a coven of Force witches, and Carrie-Anne Moss (’The Matrix’) as Indara, another Jedi Master.
As mentioned, the series premiered with its first two episodes on Tuesday 4 June, with the six remaining episodes to be released weekly every Tuesday.
‘The Acolyte’ will continue with episode 3 on 11 June, with the season set to conclude with episode 8 on Tuesday 16 July. Each new episode will be available for viewing at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT.
