Ted Lasso facts you may not have known
Even for diehard fans, here are some Ted Lasso facts you may not have known about
With season three of ‘Ted Lasso’ being released on Wednesday, it’s an opportunity to look back at some of the more interesting facts behind the show.
The sports comedy also has plenty of heart-touching moments that keep fans on their toes and reinforces the themes of teamwork at AFC Richmond. Here are some fun facts about the show you may not have known.
Ted Lasso hitting his head was unscripted
In an interview with Drew Barrymore on her talk show back in 2020, Jason Sudeikis, who plays Ted Lasso, said that he sustained a real injury in episode 10 of season 1. In the scene, Ted has just received a pep talk from Rebecca, and in his excitement jumps out the door, with Sudeikis accidentally hitting his head on the frame.
Connection to ‘Footballers’ Wive$’
Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, the owner of the fictional club AFC Richmond, has some previous experience acting in a show that revolves around football.
She previously made a cameo on the British series ‘Footballers’ Wives$’, which also followed a fictional football club in England. She appeared in the season four finale playing Jools, a tennis pro and Hazel’s new love interest.
Ted Lasso was loosely based on a real manager
Ted Lasso’s story may not be based entirely on reality, but he is loosely based on real-life manager Jürgen Klopp. Unlike Ted Lasso, Klopp is more than familiar with football and grew up playing the sport.
Klopp is known for taking his team, Liverpool F.C., out to karaoke in order to boost team morale in 2018. This was reproduced in ‘Ted Lasso’ with Coach Lasso taking his team to do the same in season one, episode seven ‘Make Rebecca Great Again.’
Real NBC promos
‘Ted Lasso’ was originally based on a character created by Jason Sudeikis for NBC Sports coverage of the Premier League in 2013. The promos proved to be a hit, with NBC doing another set of promos in 2014 which went viral on YouTube, creating a fan base well before the show’s premiere in 2020.
