The 10 most-followed Instagram accounts
Selena Gomez recently passed Kylie Jenner after clocking 382 million followers her first month back on Instagram after four years away from the platform.
With Selena Gomez taking over Kyle Jenner’s spot as the most-followed woman on Instagram, the Insta top 10 chart has shifted.
Soccer players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi dominate the list, but the battle for the top female star isn’t far behind, with Gomez and Jenner as the third and fourth most-followed people on Instagram.
The top of the list
The most-followed Instagram account is the American-based company itself, with the official Instagram brand account @Instagram having more than 506 million followers.
The second most popular account and most-followed person on Instagram is Portuguese soccer player, Cristiano Ronaldo, with more than 551 million followers at his handle @cristiano. The soccer star’s account is mainly photos from the field and of his family.
“Join my NFT journey on @Binance,” Ronaldo’s Insta bio reads.
With over 432 million followers, Argentina-born soccer player Lionel Messi, @leomessi, is third on the list and is the most-followed South American on Instagram.
The Gomez-Jenner battle
As the most followed woman on Instagram and fourth on the top 10 list, American actress, musician, and producer Selena Gomez has more than 382 million following @selenagomez. Gomez usually posts photos that portray the singer having fun with her friends.
Selena Gomez’s bio reads: “Musician/band. By grace, through faith. Founder @rarebeauty Founder/CIO @officialwondermind.”
Fellow American Kylie Jenner, the television personality, entrepreneur, and socialite, is close behind at number five with 380 million followers at @kyliejenner.
There has been an ongoing battle between the two female entertainers, with the fight instigated when Gomez returned to Instagram in January after a four-year hiatus, having an assistant manage her social media accounts.
The singer’s fans must have missed her, as her follower count skyrocketed and completely took over Jenner, who was previously in the top spot.
On the same day she passed Kylie Jenner as the most followed woman on Instagram, Selena Gomez announced she was taking another step back from social media. Reportedly, the decision had to do with unwanted attention from Hailey Bieber, as Selena Gomez once dated the model’s now husband, Justin Bieber.
“I’m going to be taking a second from social media, because this is a little silly. I’m 30 and am too old for this,” Gomez said. “But I love you so much and I’ll see you guys sooner than later.”
“I’m just gonna take a break from everything.”
