‘The Flash’ director confirms Nicolas Cage cameo

Cage is set to briefly appear as a legendary DC character.

The director of DC movie ‘The Flash’, Andy Muschietti, has revealed what will be one of the most unexpected cameos in the recent memory of superhero movies.

After learning of the appearance of Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Batman in the film, Nicolas Cage, who has said he has dreamed of being Superman all his life, will have the opportunity to don the Man of Steel suit in the film.

Some returning characters from the past have already been confirmed, with Michael Keaton returning as Batman after three decades, and Michael Shannon, who returns as General Zod after a decade since his first appearance in the DC Extended Universe.

Nicolas Cage finally gets big break

Now, the director has confirmed in an interview with Esquire the return of an actor who almost played Superman 25 years ago.

“Nic was absolutely wonderful,” the director said. “Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it.”

“I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon,” Muschetti continued.

The director also commented that though it is 25 years since Cage was scheduled to play Superman, but the experience was amazing.

“He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic,” Muschetti said.”Everyday on that set was amazing. I had a dream cast and a dream crew. I am a very lucky man.”

The Superman that never was

In 1998 Nicolas Cage was about to star as the Man of Steel in ‘Superman Lives!’, a project that would have been directed by Tim Burton.

However, the film did not materialize, and Cage’s dream of playing the role of Superman was frustrated, until in 2018 he was able to put his voice to the superhero in ‘Young Titans in Action: The Movie’.
